Hello, friends. There is a new music page up on my other website, bobcrespo.com, thanks to Number One Son Rob Crespo, my web master and mentor in all things computer-related. First up is a new song called "Jenny Take A Ride." I dare you not to tap your foot and sing along to this one. And you'll be singing along not only with yours truly, Bob Crespo, but also my other son Mike Crespo, who shares lead vocal duties with me on this one. He's a keeper, my Mike. Look for more of his voice on my songs in the future, as well as his guitar playing. This song was recorded at Dave Forman's studio, located in the geographic center of the Universe, Brooklyn, New York City, U.S.A., Planet Earth. Dave Forman is the supremely talented man that produced this song, as well as playing drums, bass and piano. I hope this is just the beginning of a fruitful collaboration with Dave, a musician's musician and one hell of a nice guy.
Five of the other tunes in this batch of 9 songs (so far) were recorded in the late 90's with The Tash Brothers Band. The lineup back then was Mr. Tash himself, Tony Burdo on vocals and guitar, me on vocals and guitar and song writing, Glen Johnson on drums, my cousin Joe Crespo on bass and Tricia Cione on vocals. Since then The Tash Brothers have gone in another direction and are still going strong without me, my replacements (it took two of them) being A.J. Burdo on keyboards and K. Paule Pachter on lead vocals and (!) rub board. My cousin Joe formed his own band called Hello Nurse that is getting a lot of notice in the New York City Indie scene and just released a great new album called "Whambulance."
Of the other songs, "See You In The Morning (9/11 Song) was recorded shortly after the towers fell and is done with Tony, A.J., Tricia (A.J.'s mom)and Glen of the Tash Brothers, my son Mike, Rick The Rock Thorin and Vin Cin of Electric Plant Studios, where the Tash Brothers always recorded, plus a breathtaking vocal arrangement and performance by NYPD Detective Ann Marie Maloney. This song is not about hate or fear or politics, but is simply a loving remembrance of fallen heroes and victims. Ms. Maloney's unreal vocals brought it to another level as a compelling piece of music.
The song "12/25 Blues (Why Is The Sky Blue)" was recorded with Greg Brenner, the current Tash Brothers drummer, and Mike Devito at Mike's studio on Long Island. The song "God Is In His Heaven" is just my guitar and voice, recorded in my living room in Brooklyn by Greg on his laptop computer. I included it because I really like the song. So that's 9 tunes for sale so far, with many more to come. I have a ton of songs I want to record and am currently back in Dave Forman's studio working on another one.
So invest 99 cents apiece and own some Bob Crespo songs. I happen to be the best songwriter nobody ever heard of and I'd like to change that. You can sing along about waitresses, Americans, picnic baskets, big green eyes and magic carpet rides. Use Pay Pal and buy some good music so I can stop being a starving artist. I'll still be hungry, though, since Pay Pal will take a third of that, but that's okay. I never wrote a single song with the aim of making money. I wrote them because I had no choice in the matter. That's just the way being an artist works: you don't just decide to become an artist, the art picks you and you're sort of stuck with it so you do your best to honor the gift you were given. Listen to my songs and decide for yourself if I've done a good job. If you like what you hear, spend 99 cents to own some good music and help me record and share some more of my songs with Dave and my son. If you don't, then the terrorists win. It's just that simple. By the way, you can see me and Mike and Dave and Gary Kroman playing live for a good cause on April 26th. See the ad at the top of the page.
